INTRODUCTION
Making available clean and safe drinking water is an emerging area of concern, particularly in the rural areas. It has been estimated that a staggering 90 million people of Indian villages do not get access to safe drinking water sources.
INDION Lampak unit produces safe drinking water from the surface water like pond, river, canal etc. and can produce a drinking water at flow of 25m3/hr which is the typical demand for the community use.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
INDION Lampak is a very compact unit consisting of pump, static mixer, Flocculator, Lamella Clarifier, gravity sand filter and dosing system. It is designed to produce 25 m3/hr drinking water from the raw water having total suspended solids (TSS) as high as 500 mg/l.
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
Static Mixer
The raw water is pumped to static mixer. The static mixture is a stationery device to thoroughly mix the chemicals with the raw water.Coagulant such as alum is dosed prior to static mixer.Sodium Hypochloride is dosed for disinfecting water.
Flocculator
The water from static mixer is fed into flocculator.During the retention time in the flocculator, the coagulated particles comes together and forms large flocs that can easily settle in the clarifier.
Lamella Clarifier
The large flocs slide down on inclined plates and accumulates in hopper bottom of the clarifier from where sludge is drained out. Clarified water comes out from the top of the clarifier having total suspended solids (TSS) below 20 mg/l.
Filter
The clarified water from lamella clarifier comes to the gravity sand filter from top for further removal of suspended solids. The unit also have the facility of backwashing of the sand filter. At a regular intervals (typically 8 hours) the sand filter is backwashed.
FEATURES
Package system that incorporates mixing, flocculation, clarification and filtration in a single unit.
Unit does not have rotating mechanism for flash mixing, flocculation and sludge removal
Low maintainence due to minimum rotating parts.
Produces disinfected water having less than 2 mg/TSS from 500 mg/l.
Does not require separate backwash water storage tank for backwash.
Treated water quality is independent of the raw water TSS containing up to 500 mg/l
Compact unit requires less space
Easy to install and operate.
ADVANTAGES
Easy to operate the unit and can be operated by the villagers also with adequate training
Best suited to the community requirement
It can be moved to different locations if required.
Does not depend on availability of electricity- If equipped can also work on a diesel generator. The unit can thus be operated in areas where electricity supply is not available, specially in the remote villages.
