The trace mineral and metal impurities in boiler feed water tend to form deposits in the boiler. The presence of dissolved oxygen even at a lower level after de-aeration can lead to pitting corrosion in the boiler. COOLING WATER TREATMENT CHEMICALS
  
Typically the presence of calcium in makeup water leads to deposition of calcium carbonate and/or calcium sulphate. The magnesium along with silica can lead to deposition of silicates. The silica can also polymerise and lead to hard deposits. The presence of suspended solids leads to deposits called fouling. The microbiological organisms such as algae and bacteria tend to grow in the environment provided by the cooling system and its presence can lead to bio-fouling and Microbiologically Induced Corrosion (MIC).
